October 1, 2011-The 2nd annual IQI meeting will be held October 1, 2011 at the McLean County Farm Bureau, 2243 Westgate Drive, in Bloomington, IL. The keynote speaker will be Kent Williams. He is an accomplished informal and quite humorous speaker and will be providing information from his operation and queen & nuc production. Kent makes a full-time living from beekeeping and has gone 10 years without any chemical treatments for his bees. He produces queens and nucs for sale, mostly to other Kentucky beekeepers. The Walter T. Kelley Co. has hired Kent to direct their queen production using his own stock. Kent is also a past president of the Eastern Apicultural Society and has been involved with the Heartland Apicultural Society since its beginnings. He has kept bees in Kentucky, Mississippi, and northern Ontario. Registration will begin at 8:30 AM., Program will be from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. November 12, 2011-The Illinois State Beekeepers Association will hold its annual Fall meeting at the Illinois Dept. of Agriculture Building at the State Fairgrounds, Springfield, IL. 62794. The ISBA will be celebrating their 120th anniversary at this meeting. Registration will start at 8:00 am with the meeting commencing at 9:00 am. The keynote speaker will be Jennifer Berry, Apiculture Research Coordinator and Lab Manager at the University of Georgia. Additional speakers include Gene Killion, retired IDOA Chief Apiary Inspector, author of the book Honey in the Comb, and winner of many beekeeping awards; Phil & Tim May of May Honey Farm; Lee Heine, Past Chairman of the National Honey Board; and Karen Lorence, author of the ISBA History.
